Woman’s Children in Cancún Orphanage

To Jennifer Aguilera-Hurtado, the U.S.-Mexico border is still as porous as a screen door, the illicit traffic between the two countries breezing through despite stretches of wall and wire, patrols of National Guardsmen and Minutemen, Arizona ire and the cruel heat of an endless desert.

“Every day, you hear about how many people are crossing the border illegally,” she says. “It’s always in the news.”

She’s not so much concerned with what or who is coming into the United States, though, but who is going out: Children, hundreds of them, snatched up and sneaked across the border by one parent against the wishes of the other and in violation of custody orders.

“This is the border crisis you never hear about,” she says.

Mexico has the highest number of international parental child abduction cases from the United States, according to the U.S. State Department. Right now, there are just under 600 open cases involving almost 900 children illegally taken by a parent into Mexico, a State Department official says.

Two of those children are Aguilera-Hurtado’s. Hannah is 3 and Teresa will be 8 on Wednesday, and their mother will be 1,535 miles and a world away in Albuquerque for that birthday.

This is an article I found about the Aguilera-Hurtado girls. Apparently their father who abducted them is broke and can’t fight more in the Mexican courts, but the kids are still in an orphanage, much like Liam McCarty. I’m not sure there’s much more I can say about the ridiculousness of that.

Knew a woman something similar happened to. Ex retained her two children in Italy following summer visitation then hauled ass to his native Hungary when Italian courts sided with her and ordered him to give back the kids. He placed the children in orphanage there and authorities were well aware he wasn’t even fit to be walking a dog across the street let alone raise children but regardless of court orders in the United States and Italy and his known abusiveness she wasn’t allowed to retrieve the children from orphanage. Finally nearly 6 years later she just traveled there, attracted her children’s attention in the school yard, and sped to the nearest airport to fly back to the United States the very same day on emergency issued US Passorts. After this Hungary demanded the repatriation of her children to live in orphanage again based on FRAUDULENT citizenship so she went into hiding her children to prevent them being taken from her.

Yeah I am the mother who had to move Heaven and Earth to save my children. The two times I saw them in that orphanage the less faith I had anyone gave a damn except me. When your 10 years old son you haven’t seen for 3 years is running into your arms begging,”MOMMY TAKE ME HOME PLEASE!!!!” because he hasn’t forgotten you and his memories of life with you are his only respite you DO SOMETHING ASAP!!!!! So I did. Two years later when I returned to Hungary unannounced I went to my children’s school and just took them back. We was outside hugging for like a minute then got away from there. The driver got us to Italy ASAP and I flew home with my children the very same day. I ended up hiding in Puerto Rico for several years though because Hungary courts wanted them back.

It is absolutely horrifying to us Americans that anyone could think a child better off in some lonely orphanage, but it has been proven time and again that foreign courts see nothing wrong with it.The Liam McCarty case is but one of many similar cases. If authorities cannot decide who to give disputed children to then there is a very real possibility that the courts will choose neither, place the children under the guardianship of the courts, and deprive them of both parents indefinitely. Look at what Liam McCarty’s mother had to do to get her son out of an orphanage he did not want to be at and was languishing in,kidnap her own son in her own country, and hide him until the courts made up their minds. Another case, the Florentine Kids Case, involved children taken from Italy to Russia and placed in orphanages supposedly to protect them. If I were in that situation I would much rather the courts handed my children back to my ex!
