Amir Ismaeil had previously abducted his daughter, Amira, from Ireland in early 2009; her mother only retrieved her two weeks before he abducted his son. Moustafa Ismaeil returned to Ireland four days later and was subsequently convicted of child abduction. He was sentenced to six years in prison and was deported to Egypt after finishing his sentence.
