Vital statistics: Biracial (asian/hispanic) female. Born on June 8, 1996. Brown hair, brown eyes. Was one at the time.

Circumstances: Carolina was born in India. Her father, Vivian Noronha, is a citizen. She was taken to New York and raised there. Her mother, Ana Noronha is a native of Brazil; she met husband in June 1992 when Noronha was attending a conference as a computer specialist in Brazil. Her mother gradually spent less and less time with her, leaving her in the care of her father. She alleges spousal abuse; the courts later threw out the claims. But shortly before Christmas she was abducted to Brazil by her mother, and maternal grandmother. Photos and vital statistics for them are not available. Vivian has been allowed supervised visits with his daughter since then. He has re-abducted her from Brazil, but got caught in Paraguay. Brazil has signed the Hague Treaty on the Civil Actions of Child Abduction, but only did so in 2000. The courts ruled it did not apply to cases before this, like Carolina. Brazilian courts have ruled in favor of the mother.
