    Dear searching mother,

Ask the state department or even Interpol if you have to find out which country scanned your children’s passports. Tell them that your ex husband is not American and the children might have non American passports so they won’t just check for US passports. My children are dual citizens not because I agreed but because their father is not American. Yet even nearly 20 years ago my children were located by Interpol despite not travelling or registering under American passports. I found out that my ex had run off to Russia, his country of citizenship despite having left as a very young child and was traveling through Central Asia where he had family with our children with Russian passports I never signed for . It took a while but I managed to track them down and initiated a case to get the American embassy to find my children’s exact whereabouts so I could pursue custody/visitation. I must say that I couldn’t get my children back to USA due to local courts discrimination on my race and nationality but I got back my contact and if when older my children wanted to come to me then they could. My ex husband was despite the drama a very good man and great father who took excellent care of our children so I couldn’t prove why they should be better off with me. My children couldn’t leave Russia due to de facto citizenship and travel ban imposed by my ex husband but they knew Mama never abandoned them and one day they could return to USA if they wanted. I found them through the state department and Interpol and fought for them. My son eventually came home on his own :). Children DO come home when they know that mama/papa never gave up!
