One thing that is incorrect is that the mother kidnapped the younger daughter born in Russia. Under U.S. law a pregnant woman cannot kidnap a fetus and a pregnant woman has every right to move. The only daughter the U.S. courts have jurisdiction over is the older one.

Which I didn’t say. I said they were “in the company” of the younger sister.

So the file doesn’t say that. However, reading newspaper articles about the case it seems as though the mother is in jail until she brings both daughters to the United States. The only daughter that the U.S. courts have jurisdiction over is the older one. The Russian courts have jurisdiction over the younger daughter. Naturally, this case is a mess because of one daughter being born in the U.S. but the younger being born in Russia.

Nobody said that the younger one was kidnapped by the mother. All they said was that she may be in the company of her younger sister who wasn’t born yet when the mother disappeared with her older sister.
Yes, the younger sister was born in Russia but the older one was born in the US. The mother in this case illegally removed Sophia from her rightful custodial parent which is her father. They can’t legally enforce the US custody order while Sophia is in Russia.

No they can’t enforce the U.S. custody order while Sophia is in Russia because Russia is a sovereign nation with it’s own court system.

Lurker, every country has its own court system. Russia isn’t special.

Of course. But what I am saying is that because Russia is a sovereign nation the U.S. court order is not enforcable in Russia just like a Russian court is not automatically enforcable in the United States.
