Eslam Chebbi missing five years

Today is the fifth anniversary of the disappearance of Eslam Chebbi. He was abducted along with his sister Zainab by their non-custodial father, Faical Chebbi, from Accokeek, Maryland. They are believed to be in Tunisia. Zainab was found safe there in August 2014, but Eslam remains missing.

Eslam remains with his father and paternal grandparents in the city of Tunis, because mothers don’t receive custody and possession of a male child after the age of 7 in the most generous of Islamic Sharia countries. Faical was compelled to hand over Zainab, because she was a female child and being only age 5 in 2014 the Tunisian courts agreed that custody rights still belonged to the mother. However since Eslam was by then 7 or 8 years old, he belonged exclusively to his father and Faical was not compelled to even allow the boy to be contacted by his mother, let alone surrender Eslam. Though I do not know if it true or not, because I heard the information 2nd hand, after the children’s mother had possession of Zainab, they both were forced to flee Tunisia in a hurry due to risk and threats of harm from the livid Faical and his family meaning there really was no choice except to essentially abandon poor Eslam. Faical admits that Eslam misses his younger sister, even spoke to the media about it, but gave no indications that he intended to ever yield his position in order to allow the two siblings to be together again and I get the sneaking suspicion that he and his family tell Eslam lies about the whole situation to poison him against his mother.
